Excellent Debut Season At Senior Championship & Division One for Suncroft Senior Ladies.
The first game on the top tier was at the start of April and the season finished on the first Tuesday of September when St Laurence’s came out on top in their game for a D1 League semifinal place. Some twelve competitive games between D1 League and Senior Championship.
The first few games were a learning experience and even though they pushed close to and experienced Eadestown team in the second game it took three games to get up to the pace of the top tier.
At the end of April Suncroft got their first D1 League win and then went on to win the first two rounds of the Senior Championship.
The summer arrived too quickly for Suncroft and with a lot of young players the leaving cert, J1’s, concerts, injuries, work, county commitments and holidays it was a struggle to field a team at times. Some of the clubs younger ladies really stepped up to the mark and Suncroft put in a competitive performance in every game. The experience gained this year will stand to them into the future.
Results didn't go Suncrofts way over the summer. They got another Senior Championship win under their belt in August and just missed out on a semifinal place on score difference and this week St Laurences came out on top in the playoff for a League semifinal place.
Remembering that these ladies were playing Junior B football only a short few years ago to be only missing out on Senior Championship and League Division 1 semifinals by a few points in their first year at the top tier of Ladies football in Kildare is impressive.
