Minor Championship Quarter Final

Minors played a cracking game of football against Newtown Gales(Carragh & Robertstown) in the Minor C Championship Quarter Final but unfortunately lost out by three points. 2:09(15) to 1:15(18).

Suncroft got off to a great start with a point and a goal before NG's got their first point in the sixth minute. NG's netted and then quickly followed with a point to draw the game even at 1:02(5) each in the tenth minute. Points were exchanged to half time. Suncroft created a couple of goal half chances but NG's were a bit more efficient in front of goal. Half time score Suncroft 1:07(10), NG's 1:09(12).

Suncroft got the first point of the second half, but then went through a barren spell for fifteen minutes. Points missed and a couple more goal chances slipped by. In that spell NG's put four points on the scoreboard to take a five point lead 1:18(21) to 1:13(16). Suncroft got some reward for all their hard work in the twenty second minute and brought the deficit back to two points with a goal. From there it was point for point to the end. Suncroft brought it back to a point but unfortunately for Suncroft NG's matched them score for score to win by three points.

Final score Suncroft 2:09(15), NG's 1:15(18).

A couple of late missed chances and with a bit of luck Suncroft could have won but on the night NG's had the edge and deserved the win. Best of luck to them in the semi.

Unfortunately the team wasn't together very long but over a small few games improved enormously. Suncroft played a lovely brand of football tonight with all the players working for each other and the team. Good structure, forward passing moves and forward movement. Carrying only when necessary and always someone moving ahead for the pass which they knew would come.

The younger lads have the U16 champions final to look forward to on Friday and the start of the U15's. The older lads have the Intermediate championship quarter final to look forward to on Sunday and the start of the U21's.
