Suncroft U14's, 2017 Championship Division 1 Shield Winners

3-Jul-2017

Suncroft 4:14(26), Moorefiele 1:08(11)

Suncroft had beaten Moorefield in the Féile but since then Moorefield had beaten Suncroft, Over the years there has been very little between the teams.

After a good win over Naas Suncroft  were confident and with the exception of one late change (John Collins in for Sean Brown who picked up an injury) were well set for the game.

Suncroft got off to a good start with two early points, Moorefield responded with a point. Suncroft were on top in this early stage had a further three points on the scoreboard before Moorefield got their second in the twelfth minute, Suncroft 0:05(5), Moorefield 0:02(2).

There were no scores for the next five minutes but there were some robust exchanges which concluded with Moorefield being reduced to fourteen players.

With the numerical advantage Suncroft pressed on and put a further two goals on the scoreboard  in the first half, Suncroft 2:06(12), Moorefield 0:03(3).

Suncroft started the second half with two points but Moorefield  got to grips with the game, fought well, and put the next three points on the board. Suncroft goaled and followed that with two points and half way through the half had a thirteen point lead, Suncroft 3:10(19), Moorefield 0:06(6).
Moorefield's Arron Shelly blasted the ball to the back of the Suncroft net to try and get Moorfield going again but Suncroft were well on top and had put another goal and four points on the board ,to Moorefield's two points, by the end of  the game. Suncroft 4:14(26), Moorefield 1:08(11).

A great panel performance across the Féile and Championship and in the final with every player doing their part.
In particular Tadgh Delaney has to be given great credit. At the end of last season and the beginning of the 2017 season Suncroft  were letting in way way too many goals. The management tried various options before Tadgh Delaney stepped in and over the season grew into the position and made the goalkeeper shirt his own.
