On Tuesday, August 9, Hurling for Cancer Research will take place at 6:30 in St. Conleth’s Park, Kildare.
The event, which has been organised for the fifth year in a row by horseracing legend Jim Bolger and champion jockey Davy Russell, will see a host of Irish hurling and horse racing stars come together for what promises to be yet another fantastic evening for everyone involved.
The participants, a mix of GAA and horse racing stars includes, All Ireland minor winner James Dowling (who captains team J.S.B.), Wexford all Ireland winning manager Liam Griffin, Kilkenny Manager Brian Cody and Derby winning Jockeys Kevin Manning and Michael J. Kinane. Colm O’Rourke, Irish Sports Woman of the year Katie Walsh, Niall Quinn and hurling legend D.J. Carey will also take tot he field. Cyril Farrell officiates, while the iconic Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh will serve as the day’s craoltoir. Anthony Kearns will sing Amhrán na bhFiann with the Artane Band accompanying him.
This year’s event follows the amazing success of Hurling for Cancer Research 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 which to date has raised over €400,000 for the Irish Cancer Society’s cancer Research programme.
The Irish Cancer Society is leading the fight against cancer in every way, funding 85 cancer researchers who are working across innovative research projects to find better ways of diagnosing and treating cancer. Hurling for Cancer Research is helping us to lead in this fight!
