U14 Div 2 Final Venue:Kilcullen 25 June 2011 @ 1:30pm Suncroft 2-13 3-3 Eadestown It was a nice sunny but breezy afternoon in Kilcullen for this U14 Div 2 Final Eadestown played with the breeze in the first half but it was Suncroft who opened the scoring with a point from the busy Christian Philips. Suncroft got into this game from the throw in and soon after Eoin Lawless added a second point. Mikey Quinn added a point to open the scoring for Eadestown. Suncroft were then taken back a step with a goal from number 10 Johnny Deane as he ran through the Suncroft defence. Christian Philips came off with an injury and was replaced by Corey Stynes. This resulted in a reshuffle in defence with Adam Talbot moving to the forwards. Suncroft were doing well at midfield with Eoin Troy and Arron Keon and the Suncroft defence also stepped up their game and it was upon this basis that Suncroft took a grip of the game and this went a long way to deciding the final result. Eoin Lawless added 2 points with one from a free. Arron Keon got in on the scoring as he soloed through for a great point. Suncroft were passing the ball well and it showed on the scoreboard as Nathan O'Rourke, Adam Nolan and Darragh Nolan added points from play. Eoin Troy finished off the purple patch for Suncroft with two great points from play. Darren Daly did great tracking back allowing Corey Stynes to make a goal saving tackle as #10 Johnny Deane was going through for a goal. Mikey Quinn added a point from resulting free for Eadestown to leave score at half time Suncroft 0-10 1-2 Eadestown Suncroft started the second half with a great move with Gary Whelan feeding Adam Talbot who coolly finished to the Eadestown net. Eoin Lawless added another free and was causing Eadestown a lot of problem with his ball winning . Eadestown were not giving up easily and the worked the ball up the field and scored a goal to give Eadestown some hope in the match. Eoin Lawless added another point and this was soon followed by a point and a goal from Eadestown as they laid siege to the Suncroft half of the field and this left 3 points between the sides with about 6-7 minutes remaining. But as the game was in the balance Suncroft defence rose to the occasion with Corey O'Sullivan, Christian Philips, Eoin Brannock and Ryan Campion doing great work . Dylan McDonnell who came on as a sub in the forwards was also helping out in defence and he popped up to get a much needed point to leave four points between the sides. Eadestown now had to go for a goal as time was running out but Suncroft held firm with Dean Walsh pulling off a great point blank save to keep Eadestown out. In injury time Suncroft put the result beyond doubt as Darragh Nolan converted a penalty for Suncroft to be crowned U14 Div2 champions 2011 On reflection it was another great team effort with scoring spread out among the forwards and the two midfielders and the entire defence doing the business. There is great self belief in this team and they showed in this match as they weathered the second half storm . Great credit must be given to U14 management team for this belief and lets hear it for manager Paddy Philips and mentors Derry Nolan , Ollie Brannock and Kevin Brannock. It was tough to pick a man of the match but Eoin Lawless for his overall contribution on the scoreboard and throughout the match just about pips Eoin Troy who put in another commanding midfield performance.
