Suncroft 2:06 v 1:08 St Laurences
Suncroft Under 14's showed their true form at the right time of the season to overcome a gallant St. Laurence's side. Suncroft started lively but St. Laurence’s kicked the first point and this was the only time they led in this match. Ciaran Troy levelled things with a great sideline free. Suncroft then scored a goal after a free by Ciaran Troy ended up in the goal. Jordan Hobbs was having a great game at right half back. Suncroft dominated first half but did not show it on scoreboard and St. Laurence’s full forward ran through to score a great goal just before half time . Half time Suncroft 1-4 St. Laurence’s 1-3. Suncroft made some changes with Brendan Kane moving to midfield and Colin O’ Modhrain moving into centre half back. Suncroft were up for this game and kept going forward. There were rewarded when a ball was put in by Ciaran Troy and knocked down by Paul Dempsey and Harry Duggan finished to the net. There was still 15 minutes to go and St. Laurence’s came storming back to level the match . But one last surge forward by Suncroft was rewarded by a free to Suncroft and Ciaran Troy knocked the ball over the bar for the winning score. Best for Suncroft was Jack Moriarty , Jordan Hobbs, Brendan Kane, Colin O' Modhrain, Ciaran Troy, Jason Kelly and Harry Duggan. Suncroft manager Alan Troy and Mentors Alan Phelan, Eamonn O' Modhrain and Veronica Moore deserve great credit for getting this team focused after a the Feile competition. Congratulations to everyone for a job well done and great end to season for all involved.
Note: From the mentors of Under 14's.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped out during the year. Five years ago this team came together for the first time. Our aim was to get to the top table of underage football in Kildare and finally this dream has been achieved. Many people deserve to be thanked for their help along the way. Our first underage chairperson Johnny Moore started the ball rolling and since his departure Mr John Knight has done an excellent job. A big thanks to both men. To all the parents who have brought the kids to training and matches, hail rain or shine, again thank you..To Fr. Larkin and Michael Harnett who were very good to us this year, thank you. Last but not least, the 21 players who have been outstanding this year. After a disappointing performance in the Feile many would have forgiven them for not being able to raise their game in such a short time and with St. Kevin's and St. Laurence's bravely defeated they can now look forward to playing Division 1 football next year. Well done Lads!! Suncroft Gaelic Football Club is proud of ye all. Under 16's are in training for the championship which is due to start in August.
